junior Consultant Energy Trade and Risk Management

The company

This young, entrepreneurial firm provides IT services to the Energy Trade and Risk Management (ETRM) Community. Their headquarters is based in New York and they have approximately 60 ETRM professionals globally, located in North America, Europe, the United Kingdom and India. They are involved in the implementation, support and maintenance of energy/commodity trading floor technology.

Formal trainings is not their way of teaching the ins and outs. New colleagues are paired with senior staff members so that learning occurs through real, useful projects for their customers.

The job

The IT solutions you deliver help clients in their everyday work with informed decision making, predicting risks and reducing costs. You will be responsible for implementing, maintaining and supporting energy/commodity trading floor technology.

This position involves little software development experience as the applications are script based and very stable. The main focus is on implementing solutions with existing off-the-shelf software packages. The job covers front, mid and back office technologies, including trading platforms, risk management, pricing, and clearing software.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will be:

  • Issue management: solving issues that arise in production environment
  • Change management: handling new business requirements for the applications you will be supporting
  • Project management: you will also be involved in projects which have a wider scope of changes

As part of an international team, you will be working at the client’s location. This could be in the Netherlands and also abroad. The working language is English at all the client sites.


At this moment there is an ongoing project in Middelburg where you will be trained. Future projects are either in The Netherlands or abroad. 

Job requirements

  • TU, discipline Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Technology Policy and Management
  • An interest in Energy Trading markets
  • Able to learn quickly and work in an hands-on situation
  • Willingness to travel
  • Accurate and able to perform in a fast paced environment
  • Independent and a team worker
  • Fluent in English both verbally and in writing
