TU Delft Insurance

The university offers a collective travel insurance for those going abroad for study purposes. The TU Delft travel insurance is not a comprehensive health insurance and only covers the necessary medical costs directly related to an accident or sickness during the stay abroad. Medical costs due to existing conditions are not covered. Also treatments that can be postponed until return to The Netherlands will not be covered. Students always have to arrange a main or primary health insurance by themselves. Students should be aware that the insurance period of the policy is 12 months with tacit renewal. The same contract of insurance will be automatically renewed for the year 2018.  

In order to be able to claim this insurance you are obliged to register your emergency contact information in OSIRIS:

  1. Watch this video and see the checklist about registration
  2. Login in Osiris and click on the button Stay abroad.
  3. Create and submit a New Request.
  4. Register in 24/7 BZ Information Service with the link provided by OSIRIS.
  5. You'll receive a reply about your insurance during your stay
  6. Click Contact and Emergency information and fill in the information about your accessibility
  7. Save your contact and emergency information

TU Delft Insurance Forms


Before you go abroad, you must leave the address of your contacts in the Netherlands (your parents, for example) and the address where you will be staying abroad with your international exchange programme coordinator or internship coordinator. Take the address of your faculty and of your coordinator with you, as well as the details of the (Dutch) embassy or consulate of the country where you will be staying. You should also register your stay at the 24/7 BZ Information Service of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BZ). This service is provided so that BZ can contact and assist you in an emergency in a foreign country, such as a natural disaster or civil unrest, or inform you of a family emergency at home

In case of emergency


  • Call the emergency number of the insurance company Chartis (AIG): +31 10 4535656, have the TU Delft travel insurance policy number ready: 60.10.4117 
  • Call the emergency number of the embassy/consulate which you have noted down
  • Inform the TU Delft control centre: +31 15 278 1226 4. If immediate help is required due to serious illness, a personal accident or death abroad, alert the emergency control room as straight away. Thhey will then arrange for rescue, repatriation and whatever else may be needed. Always follow their instruction.
  • Inform your TU Delft supervisor and/or your faculty international office
  • Inform your parents and local supervisor

Travel Safety Instruction

Going abroad, even for study purposes, might bring risks that you didn't expect in advance. To effectively prepare you for these unexpected situations the university organises travel safety instructions. When you are traveling to hazardous countries, based upon the travel advice of our government, you are obliged to partipate in one of these instructions. When traveling to non-hazardous areas, the instructions are not mandatory, but you are free to participate.

The instructions are organised once per month/six weeks. When you want or have to partipate, you can apply by sending an e-mail to It is important to register for the instructions, since they will focus on the countries to be visited by the participants. Make sure to include this information in your registration e-mail:

  • Name, e-mail address, telephone number and faculty
  • Information about your travel plans
  • Prefered language of instruction

    When you have arranged to go abroad for your study or an internship in a country where vaccinations are compulsory or strongly advised, you can be vaccinated with reduction by the SGZ (Student Healthcare). You will get a reduction of €50,- on the costs of vaccinations. If you want to be eligible for this reduction on vaccinations by the SGZ please read this form carefully and follow the procedure outlined.
