Can I apply for more than 1 online course?

Yes you can, but you have to fill in a form per each online course.

How many places are available per online course?

This differs per online course, ranging from 20 to 120 for all participating universities. We work on a first come, first served basis. So, apply as early as possible.

In case I am not selected, can I still do the online course?

Yes, you can do the online course, but not as a ‘Virtual Exchange’-student. This means  that you cannot participate in the ‘Virtual Exchange’ exams or assignments, and consequently no results will be registered in Osiris.

Are there any costs involved in doing a online course for credits?

You don’t have to pay any additional course fees. It may be the case that some study material has to be purchased.

Can I apply for other online courses than the ones listed here?

No, this is a comprehensive list of all online courses for the 2017/2018 academic year.

Can I already apply for second semester online courses?

Yes, you can. However, only apply if you are sure that you really want to do (and can spend enough time) to do this online course.

The course descriptions from École Polytechnique Féderale de Lausanne (EPFL) date from 2016-2017, why is that?

This is what we received from EPFL. They ensured us that in 2017-2018 the courses are the same as in 2016-2017 so there is no change in the descriptions.

For some courses from Universidad Carlos III Madrid(UC3M)  no sneak preview to the online course on edX is given.

That is because UC3M hosts some online courses – referred to as SPOCs (Small Private Online Courses) - on their own platform.

The information on edX on start dates or availability of online courses doesn’t always correspond to the information on the website or in the course description.

The information on the website is leading as it is tailored specifically to ‘Virtual Exchange’ students.  The information provided on edX is for all general participants worldwide.

Credits and grades

When and how do I get my credits?

The result you obtain for this online course will be added to your Osiris grade list; in case of a pass grade credits are granted. Note that if you want to count the course towards your formal study programme (for instance as elective), you need to seek approval from your programme director or Board of Examiners. We strongly advise you to start this process once you have applied for the course.

If I don’t get approval, can I still do the online course for credits?

Yes you can, and the result will be registered in Osiris. But the online course will not be included in the diploma supplement. The diploma supplement lists the formal study programme as approved by the Board of Examiners.

What will be on my grade list: the edX online course name or the course name in the study guide?

In case of the TU Delft online courses: the course name in the study guide will be on your grade list.

How many ECTS are the Australian online courses?

Australian universities all have their own specific units to express the workload of a course. We therefore decided to use the estimated total workload.

The Australian grading system and workload units differ from our 1-10 scale and ECTS. What will be registered in Osiris?

When you hand in your Australian transcript, the Board of Examiners will convert the grades to a 1-10 scale and the workload to ECTS. These will be registered in Osiris.

Exams and assessment

When is my (written) exam?

For the Australian online courses the exam date is in the course descriptions. For the TU Delft onlie courses an indication is given. We would like to know the time zones the participants live in, so we can plan the exams accordingly. Date and time will be announced at the start of the course.

What kind of assessment do I need to do?

Please check the course description for more information about the assessment method.

Are the written exams published in the TU Delft examination schedule?

No, they are not. The details for written exams will be published at the start of the course. A list (dates and location) will be published on this website.

Do I have to register for this exam?

No, you don’t have to register for the exam, we will do that for you as necessary and you will receive detailed information about this closer to the exam date. Please note that although attendance at the exam is not compulsory, students participating in the Virtual Exchange initiative are strongly encouraged to take full advantage of this unique opportunity and to show their commitment by also taking the final exam.

Are there re-sits?

For TU Delft courses there are two exam possibilities per academic year. For courses from other universities: check the course description.
