Aviation H2O and NOx climate cost functions based on local weather

 

One promising possibility for mitigation of aviation climate impact is climate-optimised routing. For the REACT4C project the variation of aviation climate impact with location and weather in the North-Atlantic was simulated, but this method is too computationally expensive to apply beyond initial research. This research focuses on correlations between climate impact data and weather data at the time of emission of water vapour and NOx. Literature and statistical tools are used to identify causal predictors in weather and chemistry data, for use in zero-dimensional multiple regression. Four algorithms per species are assessed in detail and traded off.
